Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a potentially deadly incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two marshals darted across the track right in his path

The concerning event took place on the third lap when track officials were seen on the track as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to replace his damaged front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I could have... killed them"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a fresh hard compound tires, and then I got to Turn One and there were just two guys running across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, honestly, it was extremely hazardous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a miscommunication at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a active circuit marshals can be authorized to just dash across the track like that. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm certain we'll get some kind of clarification, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the FIA, is currently investigating the situation

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" commented the governing body

"In the third rotation, track officials were notified and placed on standby to access the circuit and clear the fragments once every vehicle had gone by"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had entered the pits, the directives to deploy officials were withdrawn and a safety warning flag was raised in that area"

"We are still investigating what occurred subsequent to that time"
